What does commercial water cost in Mississauga?
As of April 1, 2026, Region of Peel charges businesses $1.9992 per cubic metre for water and $1.4538 per cubic metre for wastewater — a combined $3.4530/m³. Peel also charges a fixed quarterly service delivery charge based on meter size, from $433 per quarter on a 2-inch meter to over $2,700 on a 6-inch. Peel's rates are roughly 29% below the City of Toronto's, but the wastewater billing rule makes irrigation waste disproportionately expensive.
Why am I paying a sewer charge on irrigation water?
Under Peel's Wastewater By-law, industrial, commercial and institutional properties are billed wastewater on 100% of metered water. Residential customers are billed on only 85% — an allowance recognizing that some water goes outdoors and never returns to the sewer. Commercial properties get no such allowance, so irrigation water that soaks into your landscape is still billed the full wastewater rate. In practice, about 42% of what you spend on irrigation water in Mississauga is a wastewater charge on water that never reached a sewer.
How much can an undetected irrigation leak cost in Mississauga?
At Peel's 2026 commercial rate of $3.4530/m³, a continuous 25 L/min leak — roughly a broken head or stuck valve — costs about $124 a day, or $3,729 a month. A slower 10 L/min weep runs about $1,492 a month. Because irrigation often runs overnight and unattended, these failures routinely continue for weeks before anyone notices them on a bill.
