Native Plant Display Garden With Rainwater Storage

In an effort to reduce storm water run-off, a rainwater catchment system was installed in a 3 x 20 foot area between 2 driveways. A modular aquablox system was ideal due to space limitations.

A total of 6 downspouts are collecting rainwater and channeling the water to the 1,200 litre underground storage area. Filtration basins at each down spout provide “first flush” filtration while a bubbling rock adds a secondary filtration step and aerates the water. System overflow feeds into an infiltration area that returns water to the hydrologic cycle.

By capturing this water, off-site flow has been eliminated and the residents have the additional benefit of a beautiful “rain garden” style water feature that enhances curb appeal.
