The Gift of Potable Water
On behalf of SMART Watering Systems clients and water conservation partners Bentall Kennedy, Brookfield Residential Services Ltd., and FCR Management Services LP, SWS has purchased Sustainability credits that will held deliver potable water to people in need.
The water sustainability credit will provide materials to construct a sand based water filter in water stressed areas of the Sudan. These filters provide 20,000 L per year of clean drinking water to South Sudan, which avoids approximately 3 tonnes per year of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from deforestation associated with boiling a portion of this water.”
SWS is happy to support Enviro-Stewards in their efforts to reduce “water poverty” in water stressed areas of the world. For more information please visit their website

We welcome Enviro-Stewards staff back from a safe journey as they traveled to South Sudan over the Christmas Holidays.

Abbotsford Mission Water Sewer Services Commission (AMWSC) and City of Abbotsford Partners with SWS
|
A few years ago, the City of Abbotsford realized the importance of protecting their fresh water resource. Their peak day water demand had almost reached its threshold. They had to take action on water conservation and recently implemented a tiered water rate system along with water conservation kits.
As a fast growing community they had to be proactive building awareness among their water consumers. In 2010 they banned outdoor irrigation to reduce peak day demand. In 2011 they partnered with SMART Watering Systems to allow irrigation while aggressively improving water efficiency to ensure a sustainable future for the irrigation industry.
In 2011, SMART Watering Systems was contracted to educate city staff and help them create and implement innovative irrigation water conservation programs. These programs educate residential and commercial property owners on outdoor irrigation consumption and water efficiency opportunities through efficient irrigation.
Stay tuned for results on the latest irrigation pilot research project that includes residential and commercial retrofits. The project will evaluate water conservation and efficiency improvements resulting from several system upgrades and improvements. |
Metro Vancouver Partners with SMART Watering Systems on Pilot Irrigation Retrofit study
|
After working with SMART Watering Systems on an ICI Pilot Program in 2010, MetroVancouver and the Greater Vancouver Water District (GVWD) realized the opportunity for irrigation water efficiency through irrigation assessments, efficient irrigation equipment upgrades and weather based control technologies.
SMART Watering Systems partnered with Metro Vancouver to evaluate their head office in Burnaby BC. After the assessment, SWS made recommendations to reduce water consumption while at the same time protecting curb appeal and overall health of the landscape. The end result? Sustainable landscape water use.
